Does a messy home (or office) make you anxious and cranky, or is cleaning something you just do before company comes over?
Oh. love this – as a rural 2-teacher school principal teacher I always raged internally about my second teacher’s tidy desk and work place in the class room. My own teacher’s desk was arranged in orderly piles – stories to mark, work marked ready to hand out, next activity’s materials… Her’s was so spotless you could see her desk was made of timber.
My feeling was – she should have been giving every darned minute of her day to the kids in her class, not handing out useless “busy work” sheets of activities (like coloring pictures, word finds etc) while she marked work and tidied her desk.
I did my marking and tidying after the kids had left for home, then I’d sort things ready for the next day.
At home, I’ve always tidied as I go – as far as is practical. I can’t abide walking into a morning kitchen with last night’s detritus on the bench or in the sink. Smudges on glass tables and tv or computer screens irritate the bejasus out of me, but other than that, – well that’s why we have weekends and kids!
